Can The Referee Always Be Right?

I write this for my writing test and I only had 45 minutes to do it. Hope you enjoy!

You have all been to a sports game, right? Either a friends game, you younger brothers or your own. If you have, then do you ever remember a referee making a good call? No, probably not. But of course, you remember all the bad calls. That’s the thing about being a referee. No one remembers the good things you do but they always remember the bad things. If you don’t believe this, then type up worst referee calls ever. It comes up with so much stuff! But then if you type up best referee calls ever, all it comes up with is bad calls.

Hi, my name is Sinead and I am talking about referees and how they can’t always be right. Whatever a referee does, he or she is still going to do something wrong. They can’t help it. Even if the call is right, one side will be happy… while the other side won’t be. They have to go with their gut instinct, but what if a player is blocking their path? Or they are standing in the wrong place? An example of this is once in a soccer world cup, someone shot a goal, it hit the top of the goal… bounced on the goal… and bounced back out. He had to rely on what he saw but he was standing right in front of the goal so he couldn’t see! After that, he was sacked and came down as one of the worst referees in history. Was it his fault that he couldn’t see? No. There should be more cameras recording the game, and if the referee is stuck on a call, they should be able to rely on the camera.

Another example of this is when, in a women's basketball game, someone took a shot and fell over by the force of it, and just a few milliseconds before that, a person from the other team rushed past and the ref thought it was a foul.

If you are a referee and you haven’t done anything wrong, ever, then you must either be a superman, or you’re just plain lying. No matter what you do, 50% of people will like your call and 50% won’t. You can’t change that, just do what you can do.

I hope that by reading this, you will think about the troubles that referees go through and if you have ever seen or heard a ref make a bad call, just remember that it is not the referee's fault and once he or she makes the call, they can’t change it.

Nuclear Free New Zealand

Nuclear Free New Zealand

You all know that New Zealand's nuclear free, right? But do you know how it happened? In the 1984-1989, David Russell Lange was the Prime Minister and, to put it simply, he HATED nuclear power.

So what he did was, first get his word out to the public and there was a huge debate on it. Many people have said that the debate was like the “David and Goliath story. New Zealand I David and the USA is Goliath. Everyone was surprised when we won and we became nuclear free. You might be thinking that, without nuclear power, we can’t defend ourselves if there is a WWIII, but we can. Even though the USA did not at all agree with us going nuclear free, they are still our allies and they will protect us if we will be attacked. I am really glad that New Zealand has no nuclear power. We don’t like it that much, that if a USA ship comes near us, even if it has only a little bit of nuclear power, we have to send them straight back.

I hope you believe me that it is good that we are nuclear free.

The Haast-Hollyford road

The Haast-Hollyford road

Before I start writing, I would like to say that I do not agree with the supporters of the road and I am taking the perspective of another person with another view. I would also like to say that I only got a really short time to do this.

Everyone loves the view of the Fiordland park, right? Well now lots of people want a road to go through it. There are good things about this like-
  • We will be able to get to it easier.
  • More tourists will come to see it and we will get much more money.
  • Everybody will be able to see the most beautiful place in New Zealand.
Of course, there will be some bad things like it like-
  • It’s more accessible so more people can go and throw rubbish in it.
  • It could ruin the view.
Sure, it might be bad in a few ways, but if you don’t think that you will want or need it now, in the future, you might find yourself on it. It is a possibility. It is estimated that 98 km of new road will be constructed through wilderness and the Fiordland National Park.

I hope that you will take my point of view as the road could be very useful to you in the future.

The Rainbow Warrior Bombing

The Rainbow Warrior Bombing

Before I start writing, I would like to say that if I was alive when it happened, I would not have been supporting the French Government but for this task, my name was called out to support them.

At just before midnight, July 1985, at the Mururoa Island, the French decided that they wanted to test a nuclear bomb just in case the WWIII (nuclear war) came and they wanted to be prepared. They thought that just because they owned the Mururoa Island, they could set up a nuclear bomb, but there were some people that stood in their way. The Rainbow Warrior from New Zealand didn’t like that idea so whenever they wanted to test it, they ship would sail over to disrupt them. Why would they do that? It was not their place to stand in the way.

In my opinion (as a French agent), the Rainbow Warrior should not have done that as it led to the bombing of the ship and the death of a Portuguese crew member. It was soon discovered that two French Secret Services agents were the two people that bombed them. Dominique Prieur and Alain Mafart were arrested on 24 July. Both were charged with murder and pleaded guilty to manslaughter and were sentenced to 10 years in prison which led to the embarrassment of the French Government. It was not their fault that they killed the man but they did mean to bomb them so they would have no choice but to leave.

One of the reasons that the Rainbow Warrior was so mad about the bombing of Mururoa Island, was because New Zealand owns an Island near the soon-to-be-blown-up Island. The radiation from the explosion lead to many people getting sick from eating the contaminated fish.

Just remember, was it really the French fault for all the people getting sick?

1981: The Springbok Tour

1981: The Springbok Tour

I am a protester and I don’t think the rugby game should go ahead because, for starters, I really don’t get why the Springbok players think that they are better than all the other Maori players in the All Blacks. If they didn’t want to play the Maori people, then they shouldn’t have played at all. Why did the Springboks even have the permission to take out certain players? Just imagine if you were the best player in your whole team but you were even part Maori, and you had to sit out of the game because of it, what would you do? Can you even imagine that?

In my opinion no-one should have ever have let the Springboks into our country. You might be wondering what was so bad about this tour. The Springboks, whenever they play against a team, they took out all the coloured people in the team, all the other countries went along with this rule but the New Zealanders said “NO”, well half of us anyway. The Protesters didn’t want the game to go on while all the Rugby Supporters wanted was to watch a game. I my opinion, the Rugby supporters didn’t care about the Maori players and that is bad in its own way.

The fight was chaos. Police on one side, holding batons and there see-through shields and the protesters with their bike helmets to protect their heads and their own shields. One police said, “it was “sheer luck” that nobody even got killed that day.

I reckon that it was terrible for the Springboks to take out certain players because of their colour, after all it was not their fault they were born like that, and I think it was terrible for everybody else to go along with it. And this is why I and a protester.

The match stick problem.

Today, our teacher gave us a challenge and we had to complete it. This was the challenge-
What we had to do was move three match sticks to make five squares. This is how to do it-

This is the first move. That makes one more square.                                This is what you do next.

Move 1

Move 2

Then do this, you might think that it is only 4 but the one on the outside is one as well.
Move 3

The 2017 Cross Country

The 2017 cross country

It was the cross country today! Unlike most people, I like the cross country but today is different. We had to be marshals! I didn’t want to be one at the start but it turned out it was  quite fun! Once we thought that it was our race so we started running back and then relised the year fives (we are the year sixes) still had to do another lap! We sprinted back to guide them when the teacher finally came back and told us to come. We started to talk when we lined up. The teach yelled at us to quiet down. And then finally I heard it. BANG! We ran and we ran and we ran.
There were only 6 people in our race. We ran around the paddock, around the block, around the paddock again, around the field and we finished! I CAME 2nd FOR 2 YEARS IN A ROW! I tried to walk to Mum but I collapsed straight away! I did it! Sahara came first, I came second.

The great adventure

The great adventure part 1,2,3

Part 1 the gymnastics on the stairs
I am rolling down the stairs in my sleeping bag like a rolling rock, actually that's not quite right.I am slipping now roly-poling down the stairs in my sleeping bag at high speed bumping into walls on the way down.I am in a fancy hotel in France with my friends, Sinead and Bridget. it has been so good so far but I still can’t believe Sinead brought her annoying brother with her( she even regretted it but her Mum made her). But what I didn’t know was something alot more unexpeted is going to happen but I can’t tell you what they  are yet, it’s a secret for now.Anyway back to the story I am doing part of my gymnastics routine on the stairs and My head hurts because on the way down the stairs I  grazed it on my way down. And to make matters worse some of the blood on my forehead went onto the stairs.Suddenly I see blood on the stairs.
look around I didn’t see that before but the I feel my head.“Ahhhh” I’m Bleeding on top of My head Suddenly I bumped  into my friend Sinead littelery I bumped into her not on purpose of course. But soon she knocked over the line for the toilet Bridget was first so it sent Bridget head-first into the toilet bowl. But while I was getting up I lost sight of Sinead.
Thanks for reading part 1, please read part 2 next.

Part 2 the toilet!
I am running into the toilets at speed now,[the toilets are automatic] my head goes into the toilet bowl and just at that moment the automatic toilet FLUSHES!!!!!!!!How did this happen you may ask well, we all went to France (me, Natasha and Sinead, Sineads brother and our parents)and we came to this fancy hotel and now we are staying here for a holiday. Oh and did I mention Shaymus came too ( Sinead’s older brother, she regretted it a lot )so the toilets here are automatic and I have a fear of automatic toilets. All I remember is that Natasha was roly polying towards the line, then knocking Sinead down, which knocked 3 strangers down, and the last stranger that was behind me pushed me which sent me running at high speed and I couldn’t stop, and then the doors open, someone walks out I am coming in at high speed.Next thing I find my head stuck in the toilet bowl. I could smell chlorine and water went into my mouth, then it FLUSHED it felt gruesome and i think what is happening what is happening and that kept on going on in my mind. So that's what happened!
thanks for reading parts 2 and part 1 before
Please read part 3  now.

PART- 3 The monster under my bed.
Ahh!!!! You're probably wondering why I’m screaming, well I’ll tell you now. Hi I’m Sinead, Natasha and bridget’s friend and we are on a holiday in France in a hotel with our parents and my older brother Shaymus [ I regret it a lot ], I should get on with the story now. I was walking past my bed to get the first aid kit for Natasha because she grazed head while she was rolling down the stairs. I had just grabbed it when suddenly something grabbed my ankle. I was frozen with fear. I was so scared that I couldn’t scream or even move! About 3 seconds later I fell face first into the bed and I bit my lip really hard and it started bleeding. I finally managed to move so I gathered all my strength and courage (because i was so scared) and I looked under my bed and there I saw my annoying Brother Shaymus pulling a scary face. “ you are the most annoying person in the world!’’I Yelled “I know I am” he said. He got out from under my bed and then I grabbed the first aid kit (still with goose bumps all over  me because I got such a fright when he grabbed my leg) ,ran down the stairs and gave the kit to Natasha then she put a plaster on the top of her head!I didn’t tell her but it looked kind of funny. I grabbed a cloth from the kit and cleaned the blood from my lip because it was still bleeding. “ Was it fun rolling down the stairs like a boulder?’’ I asked Natasha. “yep “ she said “but now Bridgets head is stuck in the toilet and I have a bleeding forehead!”. We rushed to the toilet [ luckily the door was not locked ]and there we met Bridget with her head stuck in the toilet so we pulled her out. “Thanks guys!” She says. ”The taste of toilet water is disgusting and it doesn't smell too nice when someone just done their business in it!”
THE END

Kia ora,

My name is Sinead and I am writing to you about the council funding of the strengthening works for the Left Bank Gallery.

I am supporting option 1.
Option 1
To temporarily suspend the lease and fund the required earthquake strengthening works on the building to bring it to a minimum of 34% NBS.

Greymouth is losing all it’s historic buildings and if we lose all of them then nobody will want to come to Greymouth anymore to live or to visit Greymouth and everyone will move away to live somewhere else. We have already lost Toy World and it is being replaced(why did you do that). If you keep this awesome building then people can hop out of their car to look at it and if we do keep it, people will think that Greymouth actually has something to show. You might think that I am think that I am just dreaming but it can really happen, do you really want people to drive right past us and got to Hokitika. Even though I am only 10, I can still make a change so I hope I have changed you.

You might think that it is bad to fight but really sometimes it is good and here are some reasons why.

For example, it is good to fight for self-defence if you are trying to get away from the bully or attacker (although it is not good if it is the other way around. People nowadays would say if someone is bullying you that you should just stand there and ignore them and get hit in the head 10 times a day and live the rest of you life being bullied by the same people every day. You should stand up to people and stop them from hurting you. I think I know what choice I would rather choose!

Another reason why fighting can be good is for women's rights and rights for everyone and you are not normally physically hurting anyone so it is not bad to do it and you are not doing it for no reason. This might not sound that bad but you imagine not being allowed to vote or do other things that most other people can do. Just  think of being born in some countries where you are not allowed outside without doing something or being with someone, what a boring life!

There are also other types of fighting like wrestling or boxing that are legal because they have rules so it is not just hard out fighting with no rules in it. Some people only do it for a living so they live well of or others just do it for the fun of it so when you think about it, it is not the bad and people have reasons to do it.

These are only some of the reasons why fighting isn’t all that bad. After reading this, if you still believe that fighting is bad then think, has there ever been a time when you had to fight for something or stand up to someone?
